My professional pre-small business career was in events and marketing, and I believe that copywriting is one of my superpowers. But it wasn’t always that way — I entered the marketing world straight from undergrad where I studied Economics. Let’s just say that applying Economics thesis-style writing to marketing was not very effective.

So, I’ve picked up some tips and tricks over the years that help me write honest and effective for my business - whether it’s on social media, emails I send, on my website — or anywhere else. And that’s what I’m sharing in this episode today.

This episode is jam-packed with examples to make these rules clear and concrete for you, so definitely have a listen to this one.

The 9 Rules for Business Writing:

  1. Write with your audience in mind

  2. Use your customer’s own words

  3. Think about what you want your audience to KNOW, FEEL, and DO

  4. Write like you talk

  5. Avoid padding

  6. Make it easy for your audience to read

  7. Be specific

  8. Tell stories

  9. Close with a Call to Action
